Naturopathic Medicine is a primary care system of health care that integrates the art and science of medicine into a practice that respects the innate ability of the human body to heal and repair itself given the appropriate conditions. Using traditional and natural forms of medicine to treat a wide spectrum of health concerns, the focus of the naturopathic philosophy is to uncover the fundamental cause of a disease, dysfunction, or symptom; bring the body into balance, support its ability to heal, and sustain the conditions required for optimal health to thrive in.

Therapies, or modalities, which Naturopathic Doctors may use, can include, but are not limited to: clinical nutrition, physical medicine, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, stress management and counselling techniques, botanical and herbal medicines, and homeopathy. The patient is treated as a whole person within a dynamic environment – the understanding is that the person is treated, not the symptom. These therapies can be used to restore health and prevent disease exclusively, or they may be used to complement other forms of medicine, or used in combination.

IV Therapy

IV vitamin therapy is used to deliver high doses of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly into the bloodstream. This is done in combinations to help support a variety of processes including but not limited to sleep, mood, burnout, immunity, injury healing and hydration.

Iron Infusion

Iron deficiency may be caused by a variety of conditions such as pregnancy, heavy or irregular menstrual cycles, gastrointestinal illness, cardiac and renal issues, or cancer and more.

Counselling sessions are a therapeutic environment in which to share the concerns, challenges, goals, and desires of your life. Through respectful, confidential conversations with a skilled and compassionate professional, you will gain support in learning about yourself and what may help you to live the fullest life possible. It is a relationship of trust when you choose to work with a therapist, as you are sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences that are often deeply personal. In the process, your therapist is there to guide you in practicing new skills and behaviours in order to live a more empowered life. Progress often includes shifting unhelpful thoughts, coping with stress and anxiety more effectively, and knowing yourself better. Many times, talking through challenges helps people to get unstuck, revealing a level of resourcefulness and strength that hadn't been fully tapped into.

Sessions involve an exchange of talking and listening, and in order to promote personal growth they can also incorporate activities such as art, writing, and play.

The journey of developing self-awareness and healing from life’s hard experiences looks different for everyone. Sometimes it may be a few sessions before you make the changes you are seeking. For others, it’s a long term relationship while you work to lessen deeper hurts and to build resilience.
Counselling has been found to be more effective when attendance is consistent. It is up to you how often you see your counsellor, and with your therapist’s input, you can make a plan that fits best for you.

While many people find a caring, supportive presence to be uplifting or reassuring, at first it can feel unsettling to talk openly about life's struggles. Be patient with the process. Finding a sense of relief, clarity, or hopefulness can take time.

Counsellors serve in the client’s best interest. Registered Clinical Counsellors in BC have a Master’s degree or higher and follow the ethical and professional guidelines set out by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Dr. Jason Marr, BScH, COC, ND

Naturopathic Doctor, Performance & Productivity Coach

I believe in people being at their absolute best. When we individually strive to be the best we can be; collectively, we change the world for the better. So my focus is on changing the world, for one person at a time. It’s my job to empower people to take control of their health, productivity or performance levels so that they can do the things they want to with their life and achieve their dreams and goals.

I work most frequently with entrepreneurs, executives, small business owners and new, or soon-to-be parents, who need to rise and thrive through challenges, and be prepared for those to come.

Background & Education

I graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), in Toronto, ON and am the Founder, Owner and Director of Evoke Integrative Medicine. I sit as Chair of Professional Development at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM) in New Westminster, BC; I am consultant to several publicly traded companies and am a Certified Organizational Coach (UBC).

Philosophy

Optimal health, wellness and performance are dependent on individual balance in life, and that there are no absolute truths – in health, or otherwise. I view optimal health, and disease, as two ends of the same spectrum. No matter where you are now on that spectrum, I believes in inspiring and empowering you towards optimal function.

While I strive to keep one foot firmly planted on both sides of the fence and integrate therapies for individualized treatment plans; I consider myself very science-based and evidence-informed. Growing up with a chemical engineer as my father and my mother being a teacher, I have an innate urge to be able to understand and explain to you the physiological mechanisms and theory behind symptom patterns, and health disorders. All the risks, benefits, consequences mechanisms of actions of recommended treatments will also be explained.

Working with me is like working in a partnership and truly with a coach. Time spent with me should be a learning environment where you will be expected to participate in the decision making process regarding your treatments and action-based recommendations. Armed with the pertinent information, you’ll be able to make truly informed, educated and empowered decisions.

History

Throughout my academic career, I always complemented my medical education with experiences in competitive sport, politics, and leadership opportunities. Serving two years for the Naturopathic Students’ Association (NSA) at CCNM, I held the post of President of the NSA in my final year of study. During my internship at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC), I played an integral and organizational role in the Sports Medicine & Pain Management Team under the tutelage of Dr. Aubrey Rickford, ND, and Dr. Leslie Solomonian, ND, and volunteered my time at RSNC’s satellite clinic in an underserviced Parkdale clinic in downtown Toronto.

I’m a proud alumnus of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, where I graduated with Honours from StFX’s Bachelor of Science program in Human Kinetics with a major in Kinesiology. My Honours thesis studied the effects of imagery training in elite athletes, which I completed under the supervision of Dr. Lou Bilek, Pae.D.

Dr. Jyoti Mistry is a licensed Naturopathic Physician with a special interest in women’s health, digestive issues, weight loss, stress management and mental health. She is a professional member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and the BC Naturopathic Physicians Association (BCNA). She is certified in acupuncture, intravenous therapy and holds prescriptive authority in British Columbia. She is also a Certified Bowen Health Therapist.

Dr. Mistry entered the field of naturopathic medicine because she has always had a fascination with the human body. Her educational journey began with an Honours B.Sc in Biology and Pharmacology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. After graduating, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years, however, she had an inner desire seeking more in her career. She went on to pursue a Masters in Biomedical Technology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Mistry worked as a research associate at the University of Guelph, followed by several years as a policy analyst at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, before finding her true calling in Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Mistry attended the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster, BC where she obtained her doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine.

After Dr. Mistry’s extensive education and diverse work experiences, her fascination with the human body now extends to the connection between the mind and body. She believes that in order to treat any condition, the body must be viewed as a whole and harmony must exist between the various parts to achieve optimal health. Especially in modern society, we are constantly subjected to considerable stress, that creates imbalances in the body and leads to the increasing prevalence of chronic disease. Dr. Mistry’s goal is to identify the root causes of disease and work to lower inflammation in the body to restore health. In a naturopathic visit, Dr. Mistry takes a comprehensive approach to assess your symptoms, understand how they fit together and develop an individualized treatment plan to meet your specific health goals. She motivates and empowers her patients to take charge of their health, restore balance in the body and to help them live their best life possible!

Dr. Mistry is committed to personal development, self-care and building connection through community. While she enjoys cooking and is a foodie at heart, she lives an active lifestyle, which includes resistance training, swimming and yoga. EVIDENCE-INFORMED, THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE THERAPY

Adele completed the 3000-hour program at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2014 after experiencing years of chronic soft tissue pain from a car accident when another driver ran the red light and hit her in the driver’s side. She joined the health industry to better care for herself and others. She believes in the application of massage therapy modified for each person’s presentation, combining therapeutic and relaxation techniques to aid in tissue recovery and reducing stress. This can involve relaxing overworked muscles and strengthening weaker muscles with prescriptive exercises.

Adele has a particular interest in the biopsychosocial model of pain; treating myofascial trigger points, chronic pain, headaches and/or migraines, and has an empathetic understanding of today’s “desk warrior” suffering from back, neck, and shoulder soreness as she herself was also desk-bound for 10 years. In March 2017 she attended the “Mental Health and the Body” symposium to further explore how massage therapy can work with mental health as part of a whole mind and body approach. She welcomes you to work with her in assisting with your pain relief and stress reduction. “No pain = no pain!”

When not practicing RMT, Adele enjoys baking, playing on her beloved piano, wandering around museums, watching live musicals, and zipping around town on her escooter!
